Stinkin' Thinkin'

2 Corinthians 10:5 "...and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ," I was listening to Joyce Meyers several years ago and she used this term "Stinkin' Thinkin". I loved it and immediately started using it in my own vocabulary. It is now so deeply nestled within my heart and spirit that it continually pops up making me aware of my attitudes and thoughts that accompany them. The great news is that we have a power source at our disposal that helps us steer away from those stinking thoughts and take them captive! God's Word tells us in 2 Corinthians that we are to take every thought captive. What does that mean exactly? Well, the Believer's Bible Comentary tells us that Paul was determined to not let "mans" truths and reasoning take a foot hold within him. Paul saw himself as a soldier warring against the proud reasonings of man and arguments which oppose the truth. Today we could apply that to the reasonings of scientists, evolutionists, philosophers....anyone who has no room for God in their scheme of things. So Paul "took every thought captive to the obedience of Christ". This verse also reminds me that I can and should do the very same thing with my own fleshly thoughts that invade my mind. Thoughts that are so easily judgemental, selfish, proud and against who God is and who He wants to be in my life. Let's face it....we live in a very self centered world and it doesn't take much to draw our thoughts and attention away from God and what He has for us. Our own thoughts will draw us into fear....while God draws us into peace. Our own thoughts will draw into confusion...while God draws us into understanding and wisdom. Our own thoughts will draw us into judgement....while God draws us into compassion and mercy. You see.....we really can not trust our feelings and emotions....they are based on our flesh and the world's ideas. But we can absolutely trust in God, His Word, His Son Jesus Christ and the wonderful gift that was given to us....the Holy Spirit. Becoming sensitive to the Holy Spirits "checks" will allow us to catch our stinkin' thinkin' quickly....take it captive....and embrace what God's Word says about that particular situation or issue or person in our life. Stinkin' Thinkin'.....who needs it? Not Me!!!
